Moving Toward Success: Your GPS for Navigating Nurse Practitioner Education

Calling all Nurse Practitioner students: Join this live session to get tips about surviving and thriving during your NP education. FNU’s Associate Dean of Family Nursing and FNU’s Associate Dean of Midwifery and Women’s Health will share ideas and answer your burning questions!

Speakers

copy-of-lisa-chappellLisa Chappell, PhD, FNP-BC

Lisa Chappell is the Associate Dean of Family Nursing since January 2014. She has worked as faculty at Frontier Nursing University since January 2009.

Dr. Chappell has been a nurse for 40 years including 20 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Auburn University, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama in Birmingham as a Maternal-Infant Nurse Specialist and a second MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned a PhD in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in 2007.

Her clinical practice experience as a nurse practitioner includes rural clinics, emergency medicine, student health, a psychiatric facility, and correctional medicine. Dr. Chappell has 17 years of teaching experience mostly at the graduate level with nurse practitioners.

Tonya Nicholson, DNP, CNM, WHNP- BC, CNE, FACNM is the Associate Dean of Midwifery and Women’s Health for Frontier Nursing University. She has a rich history with FNU as a 1999 graduate for midwifery, the first DNP graduate in 2009, and a WHNP graduate in 2011. Tonya served the women of central Florida in full scope practice from 2000-2006 where she also directed the midwifery service. In 2006, she joined the Frontier faculty and then became the Program Director in 2010 and the Associate Dean in 2015. Tonya currently practices part time in her hometown of Dublin, GA. She has a variety of teaching experience, but the majority has been focused on the prenatal period and in clinical courses. Tonya is very interested in communication and civility at the individual and institutional levels and focuses most of her scholarship in this area.
