Welcome to Frontier Nursing University’s virtual event in celebration of National Nurse Practitioner Week and our opening session: Improving access to healthcare: Nurse practitioners answering the call.
Nurse practitioners are poised to increase access to primary care. The number of NPs has increased to 234,000. This presentation will review provider data in primary care and discuss ways to improve nurse practitioner practice to increase access to healthcare.

Speakers
Dr. Julie Marfell
Julie Marfell, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP is a Professor and the Dean of Nursing at Frontier Nursing University. She is a graduate of Barnes Hospital School of Nursing (1980) and Rush University (BSN 1990 & ND/DNP 1994). As the Dean of Nursing, Dr. Marfell is responsible for the nursing academic programs which include DNP and MSN degrees and population focuses for nurse-midwifery, family nursing, women’s health and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners. Her responsibilities also include oversight of Student Records and Retention.
Dr. Marfell has served on the boards of directors of both national and state organizations. She served two terms as the treasurer for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and as both the treasurer and a board member at large for the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwives (KCNPNM). Dr. Marfell was appointed as a task force member for the revisions of the NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies, and the the Population-Focused Nurse Practitioner Competencies. She has served on the KCNPNM Legislative Task Force since 2007 and has worked closely with legislators and colleagues to increase the scope of practice in Kentucky. Dr. Marfell is currently a board member at large for the Kentucky Center for Nursing.
