PANEL DISCUSSION – Nurse Practitioner Community Connection: Building Communities Through NP Care

Get the inside scoop from a panel composed of students and alumni from FNU’s three specialty tracks including family nurse practitioner, psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and women’s health care nurse practitioner. Hear from these students and graduates as they discuss their experiences as graduate level nursing students and how they are impacting their communities.

Moderators

Katheryn Arterberry, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Dr. Arterberry graduated from Northwestern State University (NSU) with a BSN and MSN in 1985 and 1994, respectively. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from The University of Alabama in August 2010. She currently serves as course faculty in the FNP program at Frontier Nursing University. She is active in her community serving as a professional mentor and volunteer Nurse Practitioner.

Audra Cave, DNP, FNP-BC

Dr. Cave is the Clinical Director of the Department of Family Nursing at Frontier Nursing University. Previously Dr. Cave was a Regional Clinical Faculty, Course Coordinator, and Course Faculty for Frontier Nursing University. Dr. Cave has served as a clinical preceptor for Frontier NursingUniversity, Winston Salem State University, and Loyola University Dr. Cave is an alumnus of Gardner Webb University (BSN) and Frontier Nursing University (MSN and DNP). Dr. Cave’s research focus was in Childhood Obesity. She practices clinically in a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center serving a rural community in Western NC and lives in Shelby, NC.

April Phillips, DNP, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC

Dr. April Phillips is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health (PMHNP) and family nurse practitioner (FNP) with ten years of experience working in the realm of substance abuse treatment. She serves as the Clinical Director of the PMHNP program at Frontier Nursing University. Dr. Phillips has served in rural and underserved communities as a National Health Service Corp member and ambassador. She has also served as a representative of the New Mexico Behavioral Health Coalition (NMBHC). As a representative of the NMHBC, she worked closely with the director of Health and Human Services and former Governor Susana Martinez in New Mexico to address the dire need for increased access to behavioral health services in the state. Dr. Phillips has also served as an expert speaker before the Colorado and New Mexico state legislature on several mental health issues. Dr. Phillip’s doctoral research involved the development and implementation of a model of care designed to fully integrate mental health services into the primary care milieu. Dr. Phillips has spoken at the state, national, and international levels about the integration of mental health services into primary care.
